"But I say unto you..."
Professing Christians teach and believe in resisting evil, defending both individuals as well as the nations they dwell in; in taking up arms against those out to do harm, that killing is justified when protecting a life. That divorce is not that big of a deal, just try to get it right the next time; swearing to be truthful and pledging ailegiance to an earthly kingdom and it's flag is a Christians duty. In fact, almost anything the world does Christians mirror it, from their pagan holidays, ungodly Hollywood entertainment, political activism, and general unbelief in obeying what Jesus said concerning ethics and day to day following His example.
But in the 5th chapter of Matthew, Jesus 9 times makes this statement..."But I say unto YOU", or "verily I say unto" in correcting what had been taught. He constrast what was 'acceptable' to society, with what was the will of GOD.
"It has been said..."; "Ye have heard that it hath been said"......
"BUT I say unto you...
"That ye resist not evil..."
"Swear not at all..."
"Love your enemies..."
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,”
