He died today at 93. He wrote on a lot of practical issues and was probably the foremost theologian today on Puritan life and theology.

His legacy for me personally was that it was mostly him that provided a ladder big enough for me to see over the walls the faith message had built around me. Walls of fear and pride and maybe other issues as well. I don't think HEF intended it that way and I'm not trying to be critical but I think he was a little too unaware of what was going on in his own ministry and following.

He was on my mind today and then I logged on and saw he was gone. Even though I know where he is it leaves me a little sad as he has been such a fixture in my life.

Anyway I'd thought I would post for anyone else that is interested.

Fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer.”
