Moulder (that's not a reference to the X-Files, is it??),

I appreciate your efforts in setting up this forum. Hopefully, it will serve as another outlet for people to not only discuss their observations/experiences with Faith Assembly, but to discuss Christian topics that run deeper than a typical church teaches.

The following is just a quick overview of how I fit into the FA scene:

My parents heard Dr. Freeman preach at a Full-Gospel Business Men's meeting around 1972 (the year I was born). Over time, they developed a close relationship with Dr. Freeman and his wife, June. Around this same time, Dr. Freeman had a prophecy for my father that stated God would use him to teach the Word of God. After visiting Indiana for several years, we finally moved in 1978. We remained part of FA for the next 8 years. During this time, my father preached every couple of months at FA and also preached at a house church in Ohio each month. I played my guitar at church, and we bought an organ for the church that my brother, and one other man named Gary, played. (My brother still has that organ in his house today.)

Towards the end of Dr. Freeman's life, and after he died, my parents felt they were being led to move back to our home state of Alabama. We visited Jim Oswalt's fellowship for a while, but my parents didn't feel that was where God was leading them. (My grandmother, however, stayed at that fellowship until it dissolved.) We went to several different churches until my parents finally stopped going, because they could never find the same spark that FA had in the early 70s. While in college, I started to attend a Baptist church on my on. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing.

Finally, after I was married, my wife and I began to seek God's will for a church. We visited around until we came upon a little country Baptist church that would seat about 75 people. The average age of the church was mid-to-late 60s, and we did not know anyone who went there. However, even though we didn't fit in demographically, we fit in spiritually. We knew that this was the place God wanted us to be, and we have been their for almost 10 years. The church is not charismatic, but they have a deep love for Jesus and preach a deeper and more conservative doctrine than almost any other Baptist church.

Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to lay the ground work, so everyone will know where I'm coming from.

In Christ,
Duncan

Yes the x-files--I hope I don't get a rebuke!<g> I usually don't do things anonymously but after reading one of hombre's posts I thought it might not be such a bad idea even if I'm only partially veiled.

I picked moulder because of the poster he kept in his office "I Want To Believe". That suits me fine and reminds me of the three words Jesus loves to hear "Lord I Believe".

I hope no one will be shy and hesitate to post replies to some of the material I've put forth... it occurred to me that you and Hombre were much too nice over on the other board, and might not want to be critical since I set up the board. But hey, if you don't I may have to get fivefold over here to read my "Evangelism Sunday" message!<g>

And for you Duncan, I've saved one back on "Women in Ministry" that I may have to bring out (I was afraid you might not stay if I posted it first!) if things get too dull. At least I think it was you that posted that you were 100% certain on that issue!!

I mentioned to Hombre that I also got the domain "hobartfreeman.com" and pointed it to this site. If I can find some time I'll try to add some key-words to the meta tags that might help others to find their way here...

I was surprised to see this on line and could not resist writing something in case there is anyone out there who remembers me and my family. I am Sheila and was married to Bob. We were from Massachuetts and moved out to Indiana in 1979 to attend Faith Assembly. We later moved back home in 1989. If anyone would like to contact me I would love to hear from you. There are many old friends I wonder about to this day.

Hi Sheila,

Your time at FA almost mirrors our own, but I haven't yet remembered your face/name. We probably need a FA Church Directory <grin> with old pictures from the 70s & 80s. Maybe that would jog our memories.

Blessings,
William

I don't recall you either but Im sure we saw each other. We always sat to the right of the Pulpit if you were looking in from the front doors. I had two still born daughters. One December of 1985 and Feb, 1988. We moved back to Mass in 1989. Jim Brenamen used to come to Springfield to teach at a house meeting we attended.Anyway I thought it would help heal a little bit if I could talk to others who experienced the same things as I did. Thank you
Sheila

I'm very sorry for your loss...

I do believe that we all can benefit from the sharing of experiences (both good and bad), that's now possible via the internet.

I do remember a couple from Mass. (at least I think they were) that sat on the right side... if memory serves me. I think the couple had a Catholic background? Perhaps it was you?

At any rate, feel free to give us an update on what is going on in your lives now.

We all are pretty transparent here, despite our "handles"!

Blessings,
William
