I'm sorry for cross-posting this but since the audience on Facebook is different from this one, and I have nothing better to do in this early hour, here it is:
I can't pinpoint exactly where my love for hot tamales started; maybe it was something my mom once said when I was eight or so... she described a scene, that etched itself into my young brain at the time--it was a guy with a food cart (I suppose it was in Corinth Mississippi) that sold hot tamales.
Now Mississippi didn't strike me as a haven for Mexican cuisine in the 1940s and 50s so I always had my doubts about that, but who am I to contradict someone as honest and straight-forward as my mom? After all, Mississippi did have a few forays into cutting-edge technology when it came to the culinary arts, who can forget the dough-burger? And then, to take the innovation a step forward, they kept the outsiders from enjoying (or stealing) the tasty treat by calling them slug-burgers (yuck).
I know what you are thinking, you're wondering why I'm not writing something spiritual that will encourage other Christians in their walk with God, etc., but if you'll just take note of the time I'm posting this--2 to 4 AM--you might guess that I'm suffering a good old case of heart-burn. Yes, I ate 2 whole cans of Hormel tamales for supper last night. I've never been able to figure out what a good side dish for tamales would be, and I can't imagine that street vendor selling anything else (did they have Rolaids back then?) from his cart, so what else can I do but to just stick with the traditional tamale meal and be done with it?
That didn't keep me from trying out a theory that I had had earlier in the day at the grocery store--I picked up some pistachio ice cream thinking that my stomach might enjoy marinating those hot tamales with the contrasting cool of the ice-creme. By the way, pistachio ice-creme rules, in almost every other situation I can think of, but not in this case.
Again, I've got nothing better to do at this hour and it does seem to be cathartic to have my body in a semi-upright position, i.e. not prone, so writing this is helpful.
I suppose that I could redeem this post a little bit by letting you all in on a little secret--did you know that heart burn is mentioned in the Bible? Yeah, that got your attention! I didn't know it either until I heard an old preacher do a whole sermon on it. (His name was Stan Hill and yes, he was a great preacher/teacher, how else would I, some 30 years later, still be able to recall his message?)
The Biblical account was right after the resurrection and it turns out that there were two guys who left Jerusalem and they were walking to a place called Emmaus. Now a lot can be learned from this Bible passage if one were to delve into it just a little, so I encourage you to do just that but I'm just going to hit the high points.
1) Jesus appeared to them, but since He now had a special resurrected body (something that He's promised to us too!) He changed His appearance so that these two men didn't recognize Him.
2) The two men tried to explain to the Stranger (Jesus) the events that had taken place, namely the death, burial and rumored resurrection.
3) Since the two men were obviously confused about why the Messiah (Jesus) needed to go through the ordeal of the crucifixion, Jesus explained to them the whole story and it says that He started with the writings of Moses (which, of course, included the book of Genesis, i.e. the very beginning!) and proceeding through the whole Old Testament showed them exactly why it had to happen the way it did. (There is a lot to be learned here and maybe I'll attempt to point out a few things one of these days but don't let that stop you from reading the passage for yourself, you'll be amazed at what you will learn!)
4) These men (and we know the name of one of them--Cleopas!) invited the Stranger, who had just explained to them the whole message of the Old Testament to them, to eat with them when they arrived. I know what you are thinking but since this wasn't Corinth MS, I doubt it. It says that He broke some bread and gave it to them and suddenly their eyes were opened and they knew that it was Jesus, then He vanished!
5) [Luk 24:32 KJV] 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? (Do you see it there? HOLY HEART BURN!)

Speaking of audiences, on Facebook you never know who will respond to a post, on here it's almost always gonna be William, Mark, Gary, or me.
Plus on FB you can learn who is a true American patriot, who really loves God by reposting what others tell them to, who isn't ashamed of 'their' president, and who you should vote for.
And so much more, you can even block people to keep from reading their views and lewd comments.

Yes, I suppose facebook has it's place. I've found that I feel a lot closer to family, being instantly able to find out about an event or what they are thinking, when they post there. Many of them, I'm speaking of cousins, aunts, uncles, etc., don't understand too much about our beliefs... here, it's like we know each other so much better after years of interacting.

Don't know what to think about Facebook once in a blue moon you'll find something worth reading.
Just wanted to say I saw where a lot of internet prophets are still saying Trump will get into office. Did Fraud really take place at the voting booth? According to the media you would never know it.
I would never imagined the changes that have taken place in the last 11 months. You can't go in a restaurant but they have tents outside you can go into to eat. Instead of setting inside your outside setting inside.
Now I'm facing bigger problems since I've retired. I keep noticing when its sunny out there is a small universe of dust in my house. I got an air filter but realized its not able to handle the volume of dust particles floating around the room.
Has the world always been this dusty?
I have yet to try hot tamales and Pistachio ice cream I might put that on my bucket list. I'll tell you what's really good, pizza and mint chocolate chip shakes. If anybody has any other good recipes let us know it helps a man keep his sanity in this pandemic.
