Hey William.

Have you ever read the Doorway Papers by Arthur Custance? They've been on my shelf for the last 25 yrs so I guess its time I read them. He is an anthropologist who wrote a series of papers on science theology culture etc from a bible point of view. I just finished the one on Time and Relativity (Einstein). Very interesting thoughts on time

I've been going over OT survey by HEF along with Missler on Genesis and my own studies. He is a big proponent of the Gap theory so I looked up his paper on that. Didn't change my mind but he spoke eleguantly. He also beleives in the virgin birth but has an incorrect view on it.

He did his PHD at the Uni of Toronto. The last question they asked him when he was done and just the seal to be applied was . . . Do you believe Adam and Eve were real people? He replied in the affirmative and then they refused to give him the degree! So he finished it somewhere else.

Anyway you seem to like some of that deep stuff so I thought you would be interested.

Looks like all the books are available online.

That sounds interesting, I'll definitely check it out.

I think science has one major fault--not starting with the premise of God and His revelation to us. It leads them to awkward positions that end up being false!

Here's what I've been thinking about lately and it started with this verse:

[Deu 29:29 KJV] 29 The secret [things belong] unto the LORD our God: but those [things which are] revealed [belong] unto us and to our children for ever, that [we] may do all the words of this law.

Maybe you all can help me come up with a phrase or title that conceptualizes the following:

Christians in these modern times have elevated the Bible so much and for so long that it almost has become a book that is incapable of being understood by the common man. (You know how much I revere the Bible so take that statement in that context!)

This attitude continues to take us down the road that makes us feel like it (the Bible) is so lofty that only specialists that know Greek & Hebrew, and are well versed in the latest scientific theories, are capable of showing us the way.

According to the internal evidence (that sounds so much better than simply saying that if you read it, this, or that, will become apparent!!) this Bible wasn't written to those whom we've elevated to 'professional' status.

[1Co 3:19-22 KJV] 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. 21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; 22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;

When you think about it, most, if not all of our problems, have been a result of the so-called-wise-people, elevating themselves to 'lofty' heights so that they can come down from their mountain perches and tell us (the common people) what God means, in this, or that, passage.

[Rom 10:6-8 KJV] 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]: ) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

[1Co 1:26-28 KJV] 26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, [are called]: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, [yea], and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

[1Co 2:12-13 KJV] 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

The revelation of God was given so that Joe-lunch-box could understand it. If we put it up on a pedestal, at some point it becomes too elevated for us to attain; we frustrate God's purpose in preserving it for us; we need a priest to explain it to us.

The revivals that took place in the OT were spurred by simply reading that which had been written. (I'll go out on a limb here and say that it's the same today, we need a bunch of Joe-lunch-boxes reading their Bibles!)

I know I've veered from your note but this has been on my mind lately.

Blessings,
William

Yup I agree. Joe lunch-box. I like that. This had been on my mind lately as well. I've said to myself a lot lately about why do we need a advanced degree in some biblical discipline just to read the bible.

According to "Reasons to Believe" ministry one needs a PHD in Astro-physics to understand Gen. 1-3.

Also if Gen. 1-3 isn't true then why did he tell us that. Why lie to us. Or tell us stories. There have been plenty of advanced societies down through history. Why speak in myths.

Anyway I agree. Its interesting it has been on your mind as well.

Well, when you think about it, if God really wanted to REVEAL Himself, He would be working against Himself by giving us a riddle wrapped up in an enigma!

Blessings,
William

I read part one of vol one and I'll have to say that he has some interesting thoughts about Shem, Ham, and Japheth. It's really fascinating research and I did enjoy it. Looking forward to reading more!

btw, I'm not really a deep person, I just play one on TV!

Blessings,
William
