This summer while watching a few baseball games I kept seeing an advertisement for a "Harvest Crusade" and the evangelist was named Greg Laurie. I hadn't heard of either him or the annual crusade held in a major league baseball stadium, but it's been going on for years (I think it's like a Billy Graham crusade for younger people). So soon after seeing the TV ads I noticed he had a 30 minute broadcast message regularly on the 'christian network'. I watched a couple and thought he presented the Gospel in a sound scriptural way that didn't have all the loopholes and cotton-candy promises that is so often used to draw new converts.(the 'sinner's prayer, now I'm saved forever regardless how I continue to live and now where's the party" mentality; no repentence or change in the heart, no new man.)

So I found this book titled, "The Great Compromise" by Greg Laurie, in a local thrift store and decide for $2. I'd buy and read it...Great book! Convicting, exhorting, encouraging, and real. It speaks to the young Christian, the backsider, the mature Christian, and those who think they have it all figured out and aren't at risk.

Here is a quote from the book concerning temptation...

"Temptation can and must be resisted. It can be overcome. And when you overcome temptation, there is a great blessing. James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those love Him." While it isn't easy to resist temptation's pull-- especially when you can see that so many of those around you are giving into it daily--it's good to know that there is a great blessing waiting for you when you finally overcome. What a great blessing it is to know that you have passed the test!"

There are chapters covering various temptations and areas that so many have and will compromise their convictions that has lead and is leading the church away from what we've been called to be, followers of Jesus, holy and pure, obedient and faithful. Some chapter titles are, "The Devil is Real-Literally"; "Lead Us Not into Temptation"; "What's Your Golden Calf?"; "Remember Lot's Wife"; "The Snare of Adultery"; "The Wildfire of Immorality"; "Run with Endurance and Fight to Win"; "Fight to the Finish"; "Finish Well"

I also found a 'new' copy of the book we discussed earlier this summer by Philip Yancy, "What's So Amazing About Grace". for two bucks...thrift stores, gotta lov'em.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for a copy; sounds like a good book.

So how's your computer situation working out? Are you still going to the library to post?

Blessings,
William

Ah yeah! my computer situation...LOL

I post sometimes from an IPod which I have at home, but usually I will come to the community media center(where I am now, it's part of the amenities package that is included where I live), and then I do use the library computers sometimes...and then there's tax season where I'm tied to a computer all day for three months and can post to my hearts content(when I'm not overly busy with tax clients)<smile>

Yes, it is a good book. It was revelant to life today for me, a timely warning and encouragment. I don't know what's going on in everyone else's life, but I've seen an intensity in Satan's attacks and ploys(temptations and compromise) the last year of my life. I want to believe that it is due to the work of The Holy Spirit in my heart bringing me closer into the image of what Jesus died on Calvary so that I could be...like Him. I won't confess that He has a long way to go(though I don't want anyone thinking I think I'm there yet, either), but I know He's sure brought some major changes in my heart/thinking/additudes/ and actions. Almost daily I stand amazed by something He shows me, either from The Word or by The Spirit, that just makes me want to cringe knowing my additudes and heart concerning various inconsistencies(hypocricies) that I've had...In the past, praise The Lord.

You should go down to that same thrift store, buy you a cheap computer, download some version of linux (free) and you'll be back in fine form -- all for the cost of four or five meals out!

Blessings,
William
