In my early Christian experience I set out to read the Bible, taking the promises at face value, believing the Scriptures as I found them without benefit of footnotes or commentaries. I began with Genesis and was claiming everything for myself when I was informed that those promises were for the Jews! My ardor was dampened but I did not want to lay hold of anything that did not belong to me, so I moved into the New Testament and began to appropriate the blessings of the Sermon on the Mount when again I was interrupted and duly notified that all those things belonged to the Kingdom Age. Not wanting to trespass on the Kingdom Age, whatever that was, I started over in the Acts and was daring to claim some if not all the fruits of Pentecost when I was again reminded that the Acts covered a transitional period and that we were not to press those matters too literally! By then, I did not know which promises were mine nor could I stand with confidence on any passage of Scripture lest some divider of the Word might come along like a policeman to order me off private property. In desperation I said, “Lord, I’ve heard of a man without a country, and I’m becoming a Christian without a Bible. Give me a verse I can claim for my own.” He answered with one I have stood upon ever since: “. . .let God be true, but every man a liar .” (Romans 3:4)!

Most have prayed "use me Lord"

What we should pray is " make me usable".

A sinister breeze blows across the world today. It is deceptive and demonic; many well-meaning souls are lulled to sleep thereby. What some call the birth pangs of a new era are but the dying gasps of this age. Strange new currents are moving everywhere, even in evangelical Christianity. It will take a double portion of wisdom from above to distinguish the true from the false, the sheep from the wolves. It is no time for us to be fitted with rose-colored glasses. We need a second touch from the Master, like the blind man of old, lest we see men as trees walking.

One hundred religious persons knit into a unity by careful organizations do not constitute a church any more than eleven dead men make a football team. The first requisite is life, always.

"Life's too short to fish with dead crickets"

I saw this on a truck bumper this morning, and also this one...

"Work is for people who don't know how to fish"

But before I could stop laughing I saw another that said...

"Many faiths. One journey. Same destination"

The Holy Spirit reminded me that Satan is still at work deceiving people, and I should be at work enlightening them...

"...Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,”

I`ve had this on my mind ever since you posted this James.I keep thinking in relation to the scripture that Jesus said I will make you fishers of men.

I am relating it to the fishers of men today useing dead crickets.

The dead cricket of the prosperity gospel..

The dead cricket of those who teach they dont believe Christ rose from the dead.

The dead cricket of there are many ways to get into heaven.

So many useing dead crickets instead of the bread of life.

I know. I think weird.

Everything doesn't have to be 'deep' for The Lord to get the message across. I process simple much quicker...

I was particularly struck by Tozers devotion today.

Thought I would share it for those who may not receive it daily.

Evangelism: Such a Short Time

So he said to him, "Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding
garment?" And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants,
"Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer
darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
--Matthew 22:12-13

...we have such a short time to prepare for such a long time. By that
I mean we have now to prepare for then. We have an hour to prepare
for eternity. To fail to prepare is an act of moral folly. For anyone
to have a day given to prepare, it is an act of inexcusable folly to
let anything hinder that preparation. If we find ourselves in a
spiritual rut, nothing in the world should hinder us. Nothing in this
world is worth it. If we believe in eternity, if we believe in God,
if we believe in the eternal existence of the soul, then there is
nothing important enough to cause us to commit such an act of moral
folly.

Failing to get ready in time for eternity, and failing to get ready
now for the great then that lies out yonder, is a trap in plain
sight. There is an odd saying in the Old Testament, "How useless to
spread a net in full view of all the birds" (Proverbs 1:17). When the
man of God wrote that, he gave the birds a little credit. It would be
silly for a bird watching me set the trap to conveniently fly down
and get into it. Yet there are people doing that all the time. People
who have to live for eternity fall into that trap set for them in
plain sight. Rut, Rot or Revival: The Condition of the Church, 87-88.

People get so used to the dark that they think it is growing brighter. It is possible to fraternize with unbelievers until false doctrine becomes less and less objectionable.
