A prayer of Moses, The man of God

Verses 5-6 in the Living Bible - We glide along the tides of time as swiftly as a racing river and vanish as quickly as a dream. Evidently time went as quickly in 1500 BC as it does in 2011 AD

I think this is the sum total of Moses life. He lived 120 yrs & saw a lot happen. Walked with God like few ever have. Walked in the spiritual and saw into the spiritual realm in a way not very many have experienced. Set up Israels national life. Gave them their law. Set the priesthood in order.

He's not teaching here. He's not being a leader here. He's not functioning as a prophet here. He's just a man looking back over his life and thinking about it. He expressed that as a prayer to God.

No one could go through the 40 yrs he did leading them without a deep commitment and love for his people. It had to go far beyond merely "here is my calling and I am going to fulfill it". Do my job so to speak. There had to have been a deep love and commitment to both God and his people. You see that expressed through this prayer as well. A shepherd.

I was really struck reading this with the similarities between it and Ecclesiastes. Both of them almost a lament. I would summarize it thus. Its a short life not a very good place to live said life and eventually an accounting. I'm taking great liberties with that of course but my point is that both have the same tone to them. Hobbes (famous philosopher)in speaking of the life we have said "it is nasty brutal and short" I wouldn't go that far as having Jesus in your life makes a whale of a difference. Moses and Solomon both made the same basic point as Hobbes. Moses went a little further though and asked God in spite of our situation in this world and the life we have to help us and be close to us.

I think this psalm is Moses final thoughts on life. Probably written at the end of his life. It would be a good prayer to pray.

Fires will be kindled to testify that two and two make four. Swords will be drawn to prove that leaves are green in summer.”

I don't want my post to come across as overly negative. A lot of it is Moses asking God to make us glad and be with us and help us.

Never seen that verse before, I thought the verse at first was written by a modern day poet.

I'm amazed at how fast time flies, it seems like the older you get the faster it goes. When we were younger an hour seemed like a week, now a week seems like an hour.

I know a lot of people who went on to be with the Lord at an early age. I seen an older couple recently holding hands while walking and I thought how sad it is to get old and die in this life.

Isaiah wrote:

Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.
