If you want real dry, try reading; "The History of the Jews during the time of Christ."

This book by Eusebius is not bad at least starting out, it gives some interesting information concerning the background of Herod and some of the other players in the time of Christ.

He does give a plausible examination of the two different genealogy accounts of the lineage of Christ, that James, was asking about in a recent post. Eusebius goes on to say there is no discrepancy between the two different genealogies and gives an explanation why he thought this.

James I thought you might find his explanation interesting, its found in chapter seven, the whole chapter covers the details. This man lived after the time of the Church fathers and probably had access to information we do not have today.

Yes it does have some interesting history. I had forgotten that he dealt with the genealogies. I read the book back in the 80s and have not read this Kindle version but I assume it is basically the same.

I guess it is only 'dry' if you compare it with all of the modern stuff that comes down the pike... that said, I like dry!

Is there a way to separate the chapter and send it to me in an email? I can't do the downloads onto Kindle and whatnot with a public computer...at least I don't 'think' I can. If not don't worry about it (figure of speech, I know you don't 'worry') Smile

“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,”

I think you can download the kindle app to a computer and then get free books, but this one book were talking about, may not be free anymore. By the way, the new word we use today is not called "worry" its called "intellectually refreshed". No one is offended when its put that way. LOL

Anyway, I would like to post some of what he said at a later date.

On the other hand this book is very interesting and has a lot of information that I had never heard before. He refers a lot to other writers, like Josephus, Philo, etc.. I went back and looked up the information and found it like he shared. Like everything you have to take what you read with a grain of salt, but this man lived back then and he said, he was trying to provide and preserve the correct information on certain events that took place.

I would definitely recommend this one as a good book to read.
