I am reading a book I found in a thrift store by John Bright titled, "The Kingdom of God", written in 1952. He was a professor of Hebrew and OT theologian at a Virginia Seminary. In it he traces The Kingdom of God from it's inception in OT through the first coming of Jesus in NT. I'm not half way yet but it is interesting, slow reading with many scriptures to look up, but good so far.

In going through Israel's history and the prophecies recorded in Isaiah, he brings up that according to many theologians and serious Bible students, it's widely accepted that Isaiah was written by two authors. The first 39 chapters by Isaiah and 40 through 66 by an anonymous writer/prophet refered to as Deutero-Isaiah.

Anyone besides me not know this? Or have I just forgotten? Smile I've gone over chapters 40-66 a couple of times, I can see a difference in the style and delivery of the prophecies, but...One thing for sure, whom ever God used, they certainly were proven accurate, especially the one concerning Jesus in chapter 53.

I love the OT, prophecy, and the study of Israel, and end times.

Israel is who we are, really. IMO. We are grafted in. We are a part of them. Also, the newspapers are easier to read understanding Israel, etc. I see more and more as to why HEF taught the OT and loved it so much.

I have never heard of the two writers theory. Very interesting. I will keep my eyes open about that.

Shalom,

I have heard of this theory. But I think Jesus quotes some passages in the latter part of the book and recognizes Isaiah as being the one who had the prophecy, that He quotes.

Would have to look into this further, but I am almost sure this is the case.

Okay here are two of the passages I was referring to:

Luke 3:3-6 Here is a quote of a prophecy being fulfilled by Isaiah the prophet in Isaiah 52:10.

Luke 4:17-21 Jesus is said to be quoting a prophecy that was given by Isaiah. Isaiah 49:8; 61:1-2. There are a number of other scriptures that show they were written by Isaiah as well.

I don't know why I never saw this post. Maybe I was out of town. Anyway I have that book on my shelf as well although I haven't had a chance to read it.

Does he believe there are two Isaiah authors? I'm with Gary. I don't believe there were two authors.

Thrift shops are a great place to pick up books. Generally for a couple of $ and often very expensive books. I have several shelves full I bought at thrift stores.

I tried to stress this in another post concerning another subject and I think people was misreading what I was trying to say.

This man was a professor of Hebrew, so we would think he had the correct interpretation.

Knowing the languages is not a given proof that something is being interpreted correctly.

Like we were taught you have to look at all the scriptures and see what the Bible is saying.

For instance the subject of "faith". Jesus is the one who constantly was bringing this subject up to people who came for ministry. While there can be extreme views concerning faith, no one can deny the fact that Jesus was moved by the Spirit when people rose up with faith in His ability to heal or deliver.

He could do no mighty work in His own home town because of their unbelief.

The Lord Himself is the source of this teaching, while many may mock this teaching we should all take a serious look at what He said concerning it. Its a lot easier to write it off and avoid what He is teaching.

That's why the Bereans searched the scriptures to see if what was being said was in the Word.

I'm saying this as an example that we all can relate to.

Concerning this doctrine saying the book of Isaiah had two authors the NT proves that Jesus recognized the whole book as being written by one man.

Not one jot or tittle shall pass away from the Word of God.

Hi Mark, he mentions this dual authorship on page 136. Apparently 'astute' students of prophecy books agree. Remember this was in the early 50's, I don't know what is taught now.

Thanks James. I was aware there are a lot of scholars that take the 2 Isaiah position. I think I'm going to put it at the top of my reading list.
