A sister in the Lord shared with me about her experience with the recent stock market crash. She and her husband were heavily invested and lost a great deal. It must have been a lot, as she had tears in her eyes and was shaken. She had never seen the actual statue of "The Bull" on Wall Street and wanted to know what it looked like. She looked it up. Upon seeing it, the Holy Spirit gripped her. The Lord told her that this was the Golden Calf of America and the church of today. I, personally, have never heard it put this way. She knows all about the Word of Faith; she is digging into the tapes and books all over again. She said she is now storing up her treasures in heavon and not here on this earth.
In my own life, He is doing a similiar work in my heart. Day by day, I am making deliberate choices to slough off the "things" of this world; stuff. I am also, aggressively, dealing with my flesh as His Spirit leads. It is really, not that complicated.
"Just Say No." The flesh can be addicting if you let it. The Gospel is always simple. Any complication comes into the picture when I try to justify as to why I should not die out to self. "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me." "He will complete that good work which He has started in me." I will not bow to Baal in any way, shape, or form. That includes the religion of the flesh; the self life. This religion,of self, always makes me come up wanting, mocking me in the end.
I will be ready, at a moments notice, for His call. Be it prayer and fasting, ministering across town, or maybe even across the world, I will hear Him and obey. Be it a wrong thought, motive, or habit, it will all line up with His Word and
the Cross. This is my confession and my desire. The more I walk in this, making room for Him and not for this world, the closer I become to Him.
I was taught all of this in a cornfield years ago. His mercy and grace has renewed these goals in my heart. And, because of His grace and mercy, I will cast my crown at His feet, and praise Him on that day. I can do nothing without Him, not even die out to myself. For me, it is time to rumble. I can see the treasures of this life fading away everyday in the headlines. I do not know what tomorrow may bring. He does, and that is all that matters.
I can also see fear gripping people's hearts and minds. However, with the kind instruction of "the boys" on this site, I will start another thread called "Are You Afraid?"
Blessings, GWB

"The stock market to me was always a get rich quick scheme"
...while everyone is entitled to their opinion, but hasty judgments is what caused a lot of pain with Faith Assembly in the first plaace.
I'm not passing judgement, but just to clarify, it is not a get rich scheme, if it was, then a fool and his money is easily parted.
First off, it is an investment device, tool, or whatever you want to call it.
- it runs the economy just as much as a carpenter building a chair to sell. You invest in a product or company you think will benefit the economy and country.
Yes, one has to have the money to invest for starters, that is why is was easy to pass judgment when one doesn't have it, a bit of jealousy I guess.
Secondly, INVESTMENT 101 - don't invest money unless you are willing to loose it.
- I lost over $11,000 this past month, but PTL, God is my source.
Does it bother me to have 'lost' that much? Yes. Do I cry over it? No. Am I worried about loosing more? Yes. Do I pray day and night to get it back? No.
Thirdly, investment is for the long run.
- You see, I had made $12,000 before the fall, so theoretically I just lost $23,000.
(But I did cash out some and buy my wife a new Apple computer with the profits from the Apple stock we had before the crash.)
Fourthly - investing in tobacco firms and other 'non-ethical' investments. I don't for personal reasons, but at the same time, what is the difference investing in Coca-Cola or Ford or BigSmoke?
They are all of the devil if you want to get legalistic.
I saw this same attitude about 'ooooooooooooh don't invest in the devil's companies' when I was at FA and swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
Then the same people would go the the 7-11 and buy a Coke, drive a Ford to church and well, you know, think it is different.

Alanbook,
I agree with you concerning the stock market. I believe it is not wrong to invest in it, but to be wise and know what can happen to your money if you do.
I, personally, know two stock brokers who pulled ALL of their money out of the market before the last crash. They now have their money in CD's and government bonds.
I think it is important to have your motives right concerning where your treasures are in these days in which we find ourselves; the endtime. Because of your proper attitude, I know you will not be a part of the endtime "rich church, have need of nothing church, but poor in spirit church."
I appreciate everyone's opinion in this forum. However, there is never a place for hostility and demeaning another because you do not agree with them.
This forum is a valuable tool to defend the faith, discuss the Word, and yes, to sort through our experience we all had at FA, be it good or bad. I try to remember that many different people watch and read this site. I want them to see Jesus and a means of getting answers in everything I post.
Thank you, Alanbook for your input. It is valuable to me.
Blessings, GWB

I would like to add to my previous post and use myself as an example of what, I feel, one should not do when in this forum, and in life for that matter.
I am new, as far as responding, to this forum. I have watched from afar for quite sometime. I lashed out at a dear sister recently, as she was going to be celebrating a certain holiday; a holiday I should have studied more in depth before my response. I was quick to judge and my post was anything but loving.
In spite of my "bad fruit" she privately emailed me and asked how I was and took a genuine interest. I was able to share with her many things that have happened to me since FA. Her listening ear, not defense, ministered to me in a great way. It was certainly an example of doing things His way, instead of the "flesh" way. "The Boys" were also equally concerned, and reached out to me. I thank them for that.
Because Lois and "The Boys" were such examples of putting others before themselves, I got to see His Word in operation and benefit from it. When this happens, only good can come from it.
I have apoligized to Lois, and want to apoligize publicly, for my attitude towards her. She is now a huge source of encouragement to me, as well as others, who are on this site. I learned from my mistake in an uplifting way.
The only way we can learn is by making mistakes. That is probably why it took awhile for me to start responding in this forum. So, to others who may feel as I once did, please know that mistakes are allowed here. We are all running the race and it is easy to get tired or misunderstood in the midst of it all.
The important thing is that we finish the race and remain teachable in the process. I know that there are people on here who will help me to do just that. There is a goldmine of the Word on this site; there is a famine "out there."
I am thankful for this site and I will not be abusing my place here again.
Blessings, GWB

Alanbook,
Thanks for the info. We do have some investments. I am always sorry we did not start sooner. To be young again and have all of this insight....
My Mom is ninety-four and I have heard about The Great Depression my entire life. It shaped who she is today. She is a tough cookie; a very good example of a strong woman with fortitued. Like you, I see the school of hard knocks coming our way, and not just financially.
I too, thank Him for His Word and the promises we were taught years ago, should everything go under. I believe it is not a matter of if, but when.
Flesh, like Egypt, is the religion of self. I scream "OUCH!!!" constantly these days. However, His mercy and grace is everlasting and is there, ready to pick me up again and again.
Blessings, GWB

GWB,
Please don't let anyone offend you; everyone who post on this site comes from different backgrounds, spiritual maturity, education, and abilities to convey their thoughts in writting. We're trying, just bear with us as we're growing into what God has called us to. ( a prayer is a better response sometimes, rather than 'straightening out' everyone )( btw: this is not written to straighten you out, it's to encourage )
I fully agree with you, as to this not being a place where hostility and words that demean others, should be tolerated. Really it shouldn't be something that's part of a christians character; yet we know we all have things that need to be removed from our nature, in order for us to grow into the likeness of Christ. I truely believe that most who regularly post here, are making an extra effort, lately, to show more compassion and give each other the benefit of the doubt when someone says something we don't quite agree fully with, or maybe misunderstand them.
It's easy to just write someone off and walk away,( quiting takes little effort ) but to love and forgive takes commitment.
btw: I understand what it's like to lose money, I've lost my fair share, but like Gary said, I don't see the point in posting numbers, it's not like we're in a contest....
I try to remain thankful for what I have and not worry about so much about what's gone....course I do try to learn from past mistakes and avoid making them in the future....that goes for everything in life.
And while I personally don't, and haven't, invested in the stock market( I have made other investments ), I do agree that there are companies which I wouldn't invest in due to the products they sale and the convictions I live by... like I would NEVER buy stock in or support a company that made or supplied................................
thought I was gonna name names, didn't ya?
Update: when I wrote this post I hadn't seen your last 2 post and Gary's last one, so with that additional info, I'm blessed to see that Lois has already been ministering and God is using her as a source of encouragement. PTL...maybe we can be encouraged in The Lord as we see the different ways He choses to speak to us, and at the same time The Holy Spirit is saying the same thing through different vessels...
God bless,
james

...I like to post numbers because it actually means something to me at least.
As well it also gives validity to the topic, it wasn't a flippant, 'oh well' it was only $500, big deal.
I'm not into a peeing contest over who lost the most, I gave numbers to show it wasn't a simple thing that happened in my life to ignore or pass off, it can seriously affect things in a person's life.
How anyone can see that posting an amount as boasting is beyond me.
If you really want to know, I also lost another $11,000 to a Christian businessman whom I trusted for work I did. That is actual money, not investment type.
Man, are we so bound up legalistically with self pride that we can't share in here without fear of being brow beaten because of a dollar amount was shared?
But nevertheless, if posting numbers offends you (otherwise why would three people post about it) then my apology.

Before anyone posts another post on the forum I urge you to listen to this short message.
http://downloads2.sermonindex.us/13/SID13440.mp3
It`s called the Spoken word.
I realize it probably only pertains to me and if that's the case Praise the Lord,.
If perchance it might apply to someone else then that person can then repent with me..
A lonely watchman of the night

Wow, Grandom, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!
That was an awesome Word spoken by that brother. I feel like I have been to a Sunday night meeting at FA. Like I said before, this site is a goldmine concerning the Word. I repent right now for my blunders.
It has always been sobering to me, to know that everyone in the universe has access to what we say on this site. I believe because there are no faces to our words here, they have the power to be even more intense when we read them.
In the Chumash, a Jewish commentary on the first five books of the Bible, it says that the sacrifice, when one was charged with the sin of gossip, was fowl. They believe fowl was used because birds are always chirping.
By far, the biggest challenge to me, when overcoming, has always been myself! That includes that thing in my mouth.
Thanks for the insight, even though it was a little bit of a spanking from Him. Only the Word can deal with the thoughts and intent of the heart on these matters. I love His Word and learning His ways.
Blessings, GWB

Thanks, tomax7, for your reply. I do appreciate your knowledge about the stock market.
I am sorry about your losses. Especially the loss concerning the Christian brother. To me, it seems to hurt more when it is a brother or sister in the Lord who misuses my trust.
I am sorry if my post offended you. I have learned that mistakes are permitted here, so I will try not to do so in the future.
Blessings, GWB

Bless you GWB
Jesus said in John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me.
Here is a scripture that I claim and trust the Lord will give me.
Jer1:9 Then the Lord put forth His hand, and touched my mouth, and
The Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
I pray I speak only what He gives me even as His Father gave Him
Blessings in Jesus name.
