ROMANS #1 The Divine Verdict #1
Romans is the theological book of the NT – by it can be saved, get a theological background, live a life of consecration.
All the major doctrines of the Bible are present in this book: Predestination and election, justification, sanctification, holiness, eternal security.
It encompasses God’s purpose for the whole world in general, the church in particular, and Israel for the future.
THEME: Romans 1:17 – JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
Truths: Predestination, election, literal restoration of Israel, human depravity, submission to authority, manifestation of the Sons of God, original sin, baptism into Christ, holiness and evidence that you are under grace, tec.
Introduction: 1:1—6 Paul, a _dulos_ , slave, works 7 days a week for no pay. Mt. 10 we are to think of ourselves this way. John 15:15 No longer slaves but friends. With respect to the Word, HF is a slave to us. He has a burden for us. A slave as committed totally to one another and to Jesus Christ, however, a joint heir.
*Called* to be an apostle. Apostles are always directly appointed by Jesus, you can’t decide to do it. Apostle, one who is sent. An ambassador sent on a specific mission by a higher authority. Acts 1:21, 22:
1. An apostle had to have a personal acquaintance with Jesus’ ministry. 2. An eyewitness to His resurrection.
3. Had to be appointed by Jesus Himself.
4. Have an apostolic message (what God is restoring in this hour, Baptism, faith, deeper life in the Spirit, body ministry, total faith in healing, etc.
5. The call will be confirmed by signs and miracles. Deut 13 warns against a false prophet who gives a sign that will come to pass. Matt 7:21, 22 – Jesus speaks of those who do those wonders who He will not know.
Paul was challenged as not qualifying because he wasn’t directly appointed; however, the risen Lord appeared directly Himself, Gal.
The Lord will appear to you, Himself, if you are to be an apostle or prophet.
An apostle or prophet will get deeper revelation of the Word directly from Heaven.
Paul was called after the church was established. Why? Because the 12 were sent only to Jews. Paul was called to the Gentiles. It wasn’t time for Paul to be called with the other 12 because of two reasons:
1. The church wasn’t scattered yet after being well established. Paul was the great persecutor of them.
2. He was an apostle to the Gentiles. First, the gospel had to be established to the Jews.
*Separated* -- set apart, ordained unto the gospel of Christ. Same as in Jer. Gal 1:15 He was separated from the mother’s womb but called on the road to Damascus. Ept 1:4 We are chosen from the foundations of the world, called by the gospel.
They proved the gospel by the scriptures. The only thing hidden in the OT was the revelation on the Church. What convinced them was they heard the Gentiles speaking in tongues. Jesus was said to be of the seed of David “by the flesh.” He’s the only one said of. (I think it meant mentioned GWB)
Ro 3, 4, 5. 4 evidences that He is the Son of God:
1. Power
2. Spirit of Holiness
3. Resurrection from the dead v.5
4. Proved personally to Paul by His appearance to him.
Power: John: 10 Believe my works, Acts 10:38. After resurrection, He had millions of follower’s to the world. The demons saw that He was the son of God with the spirit of holiness.
Resurrection of dead: Others were resurrected. This only did not prove anything.
Resurrection of dead: Others were resurrected. This only did not prove anything, but Jesus was the only one who claimed this ahead of time. He could lay down (the last line was cut off in copying GWB)
End
