I Timothy 4:1-3 "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth."

II Timothy 3:1-5 "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, without self control, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away."

These are just a few things our Lord warns us to look for as we are in the last days. And don't be fooled into thinking this just applies to the non christian. How many times have we seen a brother or sister start giving in to these sins. Slowly at first, until their eyes are so blinded to the truth that they
call that which was good evil, and that which is evil good.

We all need to take heed(as another posts says) to what God would have us to do.

Websters Dictionary definition of "Discern:" to separate, distinguish between, to see or understand the difference."

We need to be walking close to the Lord, so we can discern His voice, and not follow a hireling.
How many times have we or someone we know said something because they have "discerned" someone or somthing is wrong, but then with a little smooth talk or compromise they jump head first right back into what they so called "discerned."
We have seen it time and time and time again, and have even done it ourselves, but time is short. We need to start walking in stability and not be tossed about with every wind of doctrine as many are.

One way to do this is to be humble before God and man.
I Peter 5:6-7 "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
May God show us all areas in our lives where pride has crept in. An old customer of mine use to say: One of the things I am most proud of is my humility. Let's not let that be our confession. Proverbs 6:16-17 says A proud look is something the Lord hates.
God help us to walk in Christlike humility.

Another way to discern deceptions from errors is in
II Timothy 14-17 "But continue thou in the things which thou has learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom thou has learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Scripture is God breathed. It is absolutely critical to know the word of God in these perilous days. When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness the Lord refuted him with proper application of scripture. The deceivers today twist scriptures to make people send them seed faith money so the senders will reap a financial profit. Makes one wonder if they are giving to bless the Lords work or sees it as a financial investment so they can be blessed.

And how about all the false prophets and apostles out there who prophesize things to get a following, and also to get a financial windfall.

Or the churches like Saddleback who twist scripture to get churches to follow their business plan so as to have more money given to them to promote their end time anti christ agenda.

When the devil tempts us with these subtle and not so subtle deceptions it is by the Word of God we need to renounce his plans, just like Jesus did when He was tempted in the Wilderness.

Revelation 12:11 "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death."
