Greetings in the name of the LORD!
My name is Michelle and I live in Virginia. I used to be affiliated with an offspring of FA here in VA.
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this group. I have been finding the discussions interesting. I mostly joined to keep up with the progress of Bruce. I only got to hear Bruce speak a couple of times during a visit to VA. I am praying for his healing and restoration.
I am saddened, however, at some of comments I have read concerning Bruce's diagnosis...just sad to hear that some won't or can't pray for him because_________________. Makes me sad.
Well, look forward to comments or maybe a friendly "hello" from someone.
Shalom,
Michelle

DeWayne,
I have seen healings in my family and in friends. Some have been so supernatural, they could not have been explained away by anything other than GOD. And then I have known of healings which took place on the other side of eternity.
I don't PRESUME upon God to heal Bruce in time and space just because I ask Him to do so. Bruce WILL be healed, whether HERE or in Eternity. I know there are no magic formulas to preform. Just because I can quote Scripture on healing, or anoint someone with oil or do anything "according to the Scriptures" it doesn't mean that God intended for it to be applied in Bruce's situation.
I lost someone VERY close to me seven years ago. We did "all the right things:" we prayed, fasted, anointed with oil, surrounded her with printed Scriptures on cards and posters, played NOTHING but praise and worship music, confessed sin (and even things that weren't sin) and NEVER let a negative word out of our mouths. Yet, her healing was received in Heaven.
I will continue to pray for Bruce. As I stated in my first post,I was sad because people couldn't or wouldn't pray for Bruce because "he left the faith" and therefore he somehow deserved to be stricken with cancer????? HOW ABSURD is that? My God is just, and He is merciful and HE IS LOVE. And who is to say that Bruce left the faith just because he left Faith Assembly! Because I can tell you, with TOTAL conviction and assurance, that since I left a 'sister' FA church, my relationship with Jesus has never, ever been closer and more intimate than it is now. The relationship grows on a daily, no, momentary basis.
I do not know what was in Bruce's heart or what his relationship was and is like with Abba Father. I do know that I cannot judge his heart or presume to fully know what God is going to do for Bruce. I WILL continue to pray for Bruce. I pray that he is at peace and and God will delliver him from the cancer that has invaded his body. When and where Bruce gets his healing is up to God.
Now, all that said, if I have mistakenly read your post which I felt implied something other than what I have written, I ask forgiveness and I stand corrected. Having been in one of those types of churches in the past, I just cannot tolerate those who stand in judgement when someone is in need of our prayers.

The reason I am here is to understand and defend God's Word, in particular His promises. As I have stated clearly, I am all for God's mercies. But the plain truth of the matter is that most don't get healed, even though you may say they do. If someone died then he didn't get healed, even if you say he did. No wonder there's so much confusion about healing.

DeWayne,
God alone DEFENDS His word. I don't have to do anything to "defend" God or His Word (which, are for the most part, one in the same <John 1>). His promises are true whether you or I or anyone else believes in them. You stated-- "Most people don't get healed?" I am curious as to what your definition of healing is then? I have known people who had a grapefruit (or larger) sized tumor, and came back, and the doctor could find NO trace of cancer/tumor in their body. A friend with acute leukemia who was to begin treatment, and the doctor couldn't find the cancer anywhere. I have seen with my own eyes someone raised from the dead and have heard first hand accounts of another person raised from the dead. I have heard first hand accounts of blind now seeing; have seen with my own eyes and personally known of someone who was physically handicapped and couldn't even stand without the use of a walker, have hands laid upon them and they ended up dancing in the aisles of church! I had a very significant healing (asthma) 2 and a half years ago. I even went back to my doctor and begged him to test me to see if I still had this disease because I KNEW Jesus healed me of it. He laughed and looked at me and asked, how can I test you for something the LORD has healed you of? (The doctor I see is a believer.)
You stated that people who die aren't healed? Really? So if someone dies sick, are they still sick in Heaven? Are our "glorified" bodies feeble and weak as they are here on earth?
We live in a fallen world, and because of that, sickness and death has entered. But there is NO sickness in Heaven.
I had a very young friend (11) who died about two and a half years ago. He was Autistic. He no longer has Autisim. He is healthy, whole and in Glory!
It doesn't matter to me how many people I pray for who get their healing this side of eternity or the other side of Eternity. I will continue to pray and believe for God to heal *as* He choses, and when and where He chooses.

Jesus healed the sick in the NT. Did He say concerning those who died that they got healed? So you're equating death and healing? VERY strange indeed! Why would God instruct us to pray for healing if we're gonna get healed/killed anyway? Anyone who preaches/teaches God's Word is either defending it or perverting it.

DeWayne, are you really confused or are you just giving Michelle a hard time? How about you? Are you willing to or have you, prayed for Bruce? Now you may know more than I do concerning Bruce's heart and why he left FA in 83-84, I thought part of it concerned the "hunting issue" as well as legalism and laws...I don't know, I only had a couple of conversations with him and they pertained to hunting trips to Ala.,because at the time we spoke everyone still hunted( those who were hunters). But whatever the reason was, is not God's mercy and grace still available to him if he seeks it with his whole heart? Yo bro, you're not on the throne, I'm not, even Hombre's not (even though he wants to be)<just kidding Hombre> Seriously, let God be God, who knows, someday you might need prayers, and I know you know, that we reap what we sow... PEACE

There's a scripture that tell us to do our alms in secret. I love Bruce! Is that plain enough? No one knows all the details but God, and that's really all that matters. As far as the prayer of faith goes, I'm saying that if someone can't obtain God's help and healing for his own household then how's he gonna obtain it for someone not so close? Answer, he's not! And to compare death with NT healing is out in left field.
DeWayne
