The Great Falling away
I think a lot of Christendom and probably all of us here would agree we are in the end-times as there is lots of evidence for it. The restoration of Israel and Jerusalem are 2 good egs of that. Bro. HEF (and others) said the falling away is happening now and there is truth to that, but the question is . . . is it the end time sign? I don't think so.
Paul said that before the end comes and certainly before our gathering to the Lord (the rapture) there would be 2 things that would happen. I am of the opinion that neither of those has occurred or is occurring.
11 Thess. 2/1-3
1. The falling away
2. The man of sin revealed
Just to make a quick point, the antichrist has to be in power (to some degree) prior to the trib. as it starts with the signing of the peace treaty with Israel.
Here are my thoughts on the falling away.
As I have said before on these pages (link on the bottom) the Gog war is on the horizon. There are reasons for it and events and issues that will flow from it. One of those issues flowing from the Gog war will be the rise of an unreasoning resentment, eventually culminating in an implacable hatred.
The 2 reasons for this are
- to purify the elect
- to make a clear separation between the world and the church
The falling away will occur all through Christendom. Everything that is culturally or religiously Christian will be swept away. Our western civilization is culturally Christian. Even if not many believe it anymore. All of its history is Christian, either based on the reformation or the RC and Orthodox religions which flowed out of the early centuries.
In short, all the workings and institutions of our society flow out of a Christian worldview. It is going to be very interesting to watch all this happen. Although it has to be said we will be right in the middle of it.
There will be two parallel streams causing this falling away.
- the physical persecution arising out of the resentment
- the spiritual- Luke 21 et al. great deceptions annointings false prophets etc.
I think what is detailed in Luke 21 is going to shake the true church to its foundations. From Gods side he is going to shake everything out that isn't built on his Son and his word.
This resentment will affect believers like us and everyone else. RC/orthodox/ charismatics/ nominal Christians/ those who go to church once a year/ Adventists / Christian cults / Mormons and JW's. If they or their organization name the name of Christ in any way they will fall away from anything to do with that name. A lot of true believers are going to have to make deep decisions on who they are going to follow.
When this ends (at the trib.) only true believers (the elect) with a deep hold on Jesus will be left. Everything else that is Christian will have been swept away. Again it will be very interesting to see all this happen.
By the time of the trib. a new pagan religion will have been established, probably overseen by Rome.
You can find my thought on the Gog war here. The Bridegroom delaying his coming and then the Gog war.
