I was part of the latter generation FA's. I've been told some by my mom and dad a little of how they got involved. But I was curious as to who can go back to the actual roots of it all and give me a little insight.
Quick note: Rueben - I know of him personally. He's a good man and he's also very inteligent in the ways of the Bible! I also enjoyed reading his post! I find myself wishing he was still a part of this forum.
However I'm not the quick thinker he is. But I do lean more to his way in my beliefs!

Back to the topic: I find myself more curious about some of you other Overcomers backgrounds!

THis is definately much better than factnet!!

Hello Active Angel,

Welcome to the forum!

I first heard of FA in 1975/6 and knew of the roots of the movement only through tapes and subsequent messages, so I won't be of much help there.

My wife recently found a book by Cindy Barnett (Jeff Barnett's wife) that contained a lot of information about the earlier years. I'll get the name for you.

Did you ever hear the story of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of the Last Supper. It is said that the same person who sat for the painting of Jesus, sat much later as the face of Judas. As the story goes the artist searched to find the purest face he could find to represent Jesus. He of course wanted to find the cruelest face to depict Judas, which as it turned out, was the same man who sat for Jesus.

I say that to say this: That wonderful man Rueben, and "Odysseus" are one and the same...

At any rate, I'm certainly glad to have you here and perhaps one of the others can give you more details concerning the earlier roots of FA.

William

I want to believe!

Thank You! AND,
Yes I know of the painting. That would not be the only theory behind that picture. It makes for good controversy.
But I do understand what it is that you are trying to say.

As far as the beginnings of FA I guess I'm more curious. I can also say that it caused a multitude of issues in my life. Most of them not so great. But you when you get lemons you make lemonade..right! My family has been really supportive with each other. But there is also some real bitterness hanging in there.
I fight with it myself every so often. I'm a woman so it's hard not to cry when the going gets tough.

Although I will say I loved some of the fellowship. FA did help create some life long friendships among some of them that attended. I can also truly say out of all the families that attended we are blessed in that we were able to come back to God. We all still love christ. We are very very blessed. I've seen some awful things. ANd I cringe when I think of some of my friends and what they are still going through.

But lemons and lemonade. And I can't complain! God has been merciful.

It's nice to know that I can rant and rave when I need to though.

Whew!!! I just found the FA venue after all these years. I always thought we should have had reunions and year books while going there! I attended FA 6 months before the "Exodus" at the barn to the new building. I continued until a year after Dr. Freeman's death. Yup, it's been quite the journey. In short, I've come a long way. I've been set free. I've made many mistakes. I've been confused while grounded at the same time. Would I do it all over again? Well, I'm quite the atypical FA person after all these years. After all, I'm still doing a search on FA and gave some new editions on Dr. Freeman's books to my kids, now 23 and 25. I believe they will be glad they have them real soon. We were taught well. The time is so short. Don't let go of the truth of FA even though we got "out there" on some things. Oh yea, the answer is yes!!! Just ask my sister black satanist witch and Wicca neice! They HATE FA because they can't touch me. What's that tell ya folks!!!!!!
