I've just gotten into it but it seems to be very well written and his emphasis on the Bible as God's revelation is refreshing.

On a separate note I'd like to say that I've been extremely busy the last few months and would like to apologize for only reading the posts and not commenting. My tenure at the Church where I had been teaching for 5 years finally came to an end. (There were no problems in the transition... in other words it wasn't because of the teaching but it was just that a new pastor was hired and he wanted the time-slot!)

I thought that this would free up a lot of time but I quickly found myself filling up that time with a hobby -- wood working.

The Lord enabled me to acquire a Shopsmith woodworking tool and I'm looking forward to actually creating something with it!

I've enjoyed all of the posts though, and hope to be able to jump in with more frequency now.

Hi William,

I've just been in read mode myself. I must admit its taking us some time to settle in. Eventually I'll get everything caught up.

I'm familiar with the Shopsmith, I've seen a demonstration of what it could do in a small work environment and was very impressed.

Otherwise not much happening up North here, winter so far is milder then last. Gas prices have dropped to 1.83 in some places, I never thought I'd see those days again. We're just going to enjoy it while we can. I can remember when gas was .23 a gallon. Three dollars would fill my little Volkswagon beetle back then.

Hope everybodies having a good New Year, If the ball doesn't drop by 9:30 I'll probably miss it again this year. Staying up late doesn't sound to appealing these days. LOL

You must be older than me... I could fill up my mini-bike for a quarter around that time!

The Shopsmith is perfect for my needs even though a lot of people say it isn't the tool for the expert wood-worker. I'm just starting out and don't have much space so, novice that I am, it seems to be able to do anything that I can imagine.

So far, in addition to the main machine, I've bought a jointer, a bandsaw, and a jigsaw. These accessories came with an additional power station so I can either set them up on the main machine or separately on the power station. Just got a shock though when buying a few pieces of oak sawmill lumber... wow! it's expensive!

It's been pretty mild here too, hopefully we'll still get our traditional 1" of snow this year though!

It's been pretty mild here too, hopefully we'll still get our traditional 1" of snow this year though!

Thats disgusting. !!!! I'm looking at buying a new Snow Blower so if you decide you need a used one to deal with all that snow . . .

Sorry I missed it while ya'll were all in the conversing mode, I went to bed about 10ish but of course the fireworks didn't allow for sleep til about 1 am.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone, especially nonbelievers who think that The Bible is just the works of man.

I'm going to explore some old gold mines today with my nephews, about 45 years ago I went through some of the shafts 'looking for gold' and adventure. My brother and nephews have bought a good bit of land in a rugged part of the state and the gold mines are located on it. Funny that all these years later my brother buys the mountains I used to camp and explore on...kinda cool! If I find any gold(not that we're looing for gold, just exploring the shafts that look safe) I'll let everyone know and we can have another gold rush...lol btw: gold was discovered there in the 1830's well before California, but was given up on after WWI.

Oh yes! those gas prices, right in time for my travels for tax season...For me that's great news, might save enough to make up for other business cost that have inflated...Key word for tax season..."health care insurance" did ya or didn't ya? Gonna make some people very unhappy with the results of those questions.

You might already know about this site but if not you might want to check out woodsmithshop.com you can get free plans and see free videos showing how to make the projects. I've watched some of their programs they make it easy to understand how to build something.

I use a lot of kreg screws when building furniture, for years I dowelled everything together until someone showed me how much quicker the work went together when using the kreg screws.

Your probably familiar with this but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the link, that does look like a nice site!

I'm amazed at how much information there is on just about every aspect of woodworking on the internet, both dedicated sites and on youtube.

A lot of those guys make it look easy but I suspect that is because they've spent a lifetime working with wood.

The table-saw seems to be the most scary part of it all. It makes the hair stand up on the back of my head when I'm cutting close to the blade! You may laugh but after watching a bunch of reviews I spent 150 bucks on a set of GRRippers (from Microjig). That's a lot of money for a couple of push-blocks but I must say that they have lessened my anxiety by a factor of 10.

There was a guy from FA, I believe his name was Kent Bowers... he was a whiz at the big old industrial table saw at one of the RV/trailer factories where I used to work. That guy could freehand cut on that saw (without a fence) a 4x8 sheet of particle board using only a chalk line and his eyeballs. (As far as I know he is still alive and has all of his limbs!)

My father-in-law has a bunch of saw-milled lumber stored in his barn loft that has been dried and ready for use.

So far I've split a few of the wide boards and used the jointer to square up 2 sides. I think I can use the table saw to finish them up but I may need to spring for a planer... it looks so much easier with a planer.

I've run across quite a few folks that use the kreg screw system on the videos I've watched and it does seem like a pretty good way to put things together... especially since I'm not putting out museum pieces yet! <grin>

I would like to take a stab at dove-tailing a simple box, though... just so I could say that I'd done it!

I've always heard the most dangerous piece of equipment is the shaper, people get over confident with it and sometimes it can pull your hand into the blade. That was always the one I disliked working with.

We use tables saws all the time with no fence on job sites. With all that said, I heard about a new table saw that you can put your finger on the blade while moving and it will instantly shut down. Someone told me that they use a hot dog in the demo (smart guys), and as soon as the hot dog touches the blade it stops. I don't think I'd want to test it out but I'd like to see the demo on this.

One time I was using a dado blade and got to close, the wood jumped out of the saw and the blade shaved off all the layers of skin off my thumb. Nasty sight but it healed up, back to normal with no scares. It hurts to even think about that one.

Anyway have fun with that equipment and don't forget to use ear plugs.

Read the title to this post and was thinking it was dealing with another subject. Jesus on Trial.

Anyway read an article in Charisma magazine and noticed the world (hollywood), is playing some Blasphemous movie about Jesus.

I was thinking the world can say what they want about Jesus and Christians never get in an uproar. If that movie would of portrayed "alla", the muslims would be tearing down hollywood.

I guess this shows the difference with Christians, who are peace loving and non destructive. And the fact that we know that Jesus is the living God and He will deal with everything at the great white throne judgement.

Its a fearful thing to fall in the hands of the Living God.
