Hi Gary & Sage,
I was looking on the map to where you both live - Michigan & Indiana & it is in similar latitudes to us here in Victoria, 40 - 45 degrees. However we never get that sort of weather except up in the mountains. How do you keep warm, & not have frozen water pipes? Do you store food & what do you use for cooking? Sounds to me, who is enjoying 30 - 40 degrees plus (very hot) that you are in that movie where they were hold up in the National Library & had to burn the library books & furniture to keep warm as everything was frozen over. Yes I do exaggerate. It wasn`t global warming, (in the movie) but northern freezing. Trev has just come in & says that movie is `Independence Day.` Have you seen it?
I have been snow skiing so have seen & enjoyed snow but it is not usual for here.

Hi Gary,
Yes I was only joking. (Lol  ) And I meant the latitude `upside down,` as it were from you in the Southern Hemisphere. We are about the same, but even in our winter we never get that cold. So how do you keep warm & not have frozen water pipes?
We have a fire box at our place, Trevor chops the wood which we have plenty of on the farm. And we can use the fire box for warmth & for cooking on top & in the stove underneath, so if our electricity goes off we are fine. The wood fire keeps the whole house warm & toastie all day & all night. It is so relaxing to look at the fire burning instead of the TV blaring, if you know what I mean.

PS. Port Augusta is more Sydney way while we are near the Murray River, Echuca, Victoria.

Hi Gary,
Yes we do use the term `wood stove,` but this new term `fire box,` refers to having the fire, the heating in the box at the top, & then underneath is another box, the oven, which you can regulate the heat by opening or closing vents. It is also very handy to have the top part suitable for cooking & that is where I cook our big pots of soup while the bread is cooking in the oven. I can see Therese would love that as you said one time she was cooking biscuits.
Glad you are all warm & can operate without electricity if you have too. I think as time moves on we have to be more self sufficient & not rely on man`s system as much as we can as these things are going to get very expensive.
I wonder if James is as cold in his part of the country. Marilyn.

It set new records, yesterday it was 8 here in Birmingham, AL. today it think a heat wave has arrived, it was 15 this morning...
We are SO unprepared for bitter cold, I don't even have any heavy clothing, so I just layered-up(Imean a bunch of layers). A electric heat-pump doesn't begin to do the job in this weather...but, thanks be to Jesus, it does keep it semi-comfortable. I trust William is doing well, it's colder there than here. I know Sue is always telling me how she likes the cold and snow...guess she's happy bout now.<grin> Gary, if the TV is correct, yous guys are having some serious weather, I'm praying for you, Ron, and Dick there in Hoosierville.

We had 15 yesterday and tonight it's suppose to be around 10-12. What's with these "Polar Vortexes"?
Looking on the 'bright side' the farmers here in central Alabama raise a lot of peaches and they require X number of freezing hours to make a good crop; shouldn't be a problem this year.
On the other side of the coin (so to speak) heating cost are through the roof and it's so cold very few people are getting out to file their taxes...Meanwhile I give praise to God for His great Love and eternal plan...and I look forward to eternity with Him, worshipping and praising Jesus.

I love peach cobbler. Many people around here travel down south and bring back peaches by the bushels, they sell them in the Spring.

Their running out of propane up here, I heard they are shipping it in from the South. There's not much carpentry going on up here either. Some guy the other day wanted me to go three miles into the woods and put windows in his turkey blind. I can just see packing tools and windows back into the deep woods. I had to pass on that one.
I was just thinking last night about the scripture, "who is worthy to open and read the scroll".

Weather update from the frozen tundra of Alabama...
We had a major mess here in central Alabama, snow and ice and total gridlock of traffic in the Birmingham area. Thousands of people caught out overnight in their cars with single digit temps after icing and snow hit with a vengeance yesterday. The hwy dept wasn't prepared due to weather forecast predicting the snow/ice line to be 75-100 miles to the 'south'. No one was expecting this, people abandoned cars on interstates and major highways and just started walking...I had several friends who were caught out in traffic jams for up to 10-12 hrs and a couple of friends had to stay overnight at their places of business and just make do.
I had things I felt needed checked on here at the office (like water pipes) and so I was one of the very few cars to venture out today, so obviously there won't be any clients stopping in for tax preparation. LOL
the good news is, only 50 more days til spring...

Brother Dick sent me this link to a story of a business being generous to strangers. It just so happens that this particular Chick-Fil-A restaurant is only a mile from where I live in Birmingham. Not to 'toot our horn' but southerners are, as a general rule, very friendly and generous to anyone in need. When the tornadoes hit every few years and bring extreme damage and death, people respond with awesome testimonies of people helping others.(of course there's always stories of people taking advantage of others but there's more stories of good deeds than bad.

Somehow in doing a Google search on Steve Hill (one of the Brownsville Revival preachers) I came across a story on an Amish lady who became wealthy making pretzels. Anne Beiler only had an eighth grade education yet started a company selling her 'Aunt Anne's Pretzels' that grew to sales of 250 million dollars annually. She has became a motivational speaker and has written a book about her faith, work ethic, and lessons learned. Here's a quote I found interesting and since several of us are or have been 'self-employed'/entrepreneurs through the years I thought others might 'get it'.

Not again, "same old story"!
I hope your setting there with a nice hot steaming cup of coffee as I wanted to share something that has been a little annoying over the years.
Did you ever go around someone who is an acquaintance, relative or friend and they precede to tell you a story that you have heard over a hundred times? In fact you've heard the story so many times that you could quote every detail and probably tell it better then them.
Sometimes I have tried to be nice and and throw out, I remember you telling me this, to let them know I have heard it, but sometimes I let them rattle on and endure knowing what will happen next.
I have found this to be an annoying trait of humanity. Oh I know its probably some highlight in their lives that they enjoy reliving a memory from bygone days or some accomplishment that they think others will enjoy hearing what took place in their lives. Maybe everybody is guilty of this at one time or another in our lives.
Now that I'm a little older and I hope a little wiser, I have tried to make it a practice that when I proceed to tell someone a story that I remembered and I notice a gleam in their eyes or a smile on their faces; to ask them the question, Have I told you this story before? Rather then bore them with the same old details, that are only important to me.
Its probably just part of life we have to live with, I mean in just eighty short years on the earth only so much can happen. I don't know if other people recognize this taking place as no one ever mentions it, but I think at least its worthy to know about as we go about our daily lives. Just thought I would share that with everyone this morning.
BTW while I'm thinking about it, Did I ever tell you guys about my trip to Israel, where I went on an archeological dig?

Reading the article on these Blood moons it says;
that these "Triads" will not occur for another 100 years after this time. We will see two Blood moons in 2014 and two in 2015, all will fall on a Jewish holiday.
If nothing else, the history of these Blood moons appearing is very interesting.
The situation is we see no mention of a Triad falling on a certain date for scripture to be fulfilled, at least looking at these verses in Joel. The scriptures show the sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord.
God can allow this event to occur anytime He chooses.
Like William mentioned in the other post, the more we learn about God we find the less we really know about the Lord. This is very true, the Lord is a lot bigger then our finite minds will ever be able to comprehend.
Just knowing He has called us into His marvelous light is beyond words. Its easy to understand why, the elders fell down and cast their crowns before the throne.

Weather in Alabama is nice, ater a few showers today... coming up on some days of upper 70's...beautiful shades of green (and yellow, if you like pollen)
You know Marilyn, it doesn't do any good to have running 'shoes' if your running days are past.LOL But I can walk briskly...
Maybe the newest posts will interest jman, he always lamented the lack of apostles.

Yes it is interesting how we perceive each other. So here goes, I picture James as a type of `spy,` who goes through life on one level, mister nice guy, but he has layers, and is very God focussed. `On a mission from God.` I think that is a line from a movie.
Now you Gary, well, you are mister friendly to all. And I have appreciated you inviting me here & talking on various topics of interest. I see you by the fire with Therese sharing & caring.

'Mister in shape guy' just spent several days working around my mothers' house (trimming shrubs, removing shrubs, cleaning up winter limbs, cutting grass, weed-eating, blowing off the roof,ect) and came to realise, there's gym shape and then there's 'working shape' (and sitting at a computer preparing income taxes for 3 months doesn't compare to physical work). I'd work a while and rest a while. lol Now to get rid of the poison oak or ivy.
I think it's human nature to draw a mental picture of people we've not met, but my experience is that it's hardly EVER correct.

I guess it is morning down under, it's mid-afternoon here. The eagles are growing like crazy, it's amazing just how fast their metabolism is; they'll be flying before ya know it. Today I discovered our resident Mallard duck has 10-12 newly hatched ducklings, so cute following her around the lake.
Hope you and Trevor are doing well and blessed in Jesus.

Hi James,
Thanks for the update. Yes they would be very cute.
Trevor & his brothers are busy with ploughing, harrowing, fertilising, direct seeding, etc as well as looking after the cows & calves. I`ve gone visiting again for a few days & appreciate `girl time,` with my friends.
Are you still doing tax work?

Hi James,
Yes Trev is a busy guy & he is `semi-retired`???? But one of his brothers has a back injury & is waiting for an op & another is on holidays so Trev is `feeding out,` the hay to the cows & calves. One is on the way today.
Trevor has 5 brothers & he is the 2nd eldest. It is his 60th soon & I am planning a gathering at our place. Many of my friends will help as they know I have limited strength.
Are you semi-retired? Do you have another paid job? Don`t mean to be nosey but it helps to know people that have been chatting for a while. Makes it a bit more relational & not so `cut & thrust,` if you know what I mean.
