No guessing here we all know one thing. He went to save us from our sins. It is amazing why he also had to go. That is because he was saying that he is God's son. two verses need explaining first.
2 Cor. 5:21 That he was made sin for us.
Gal.3:13 That he was made a curse for us.
Why would he be made sin since he didn't sin? Also to be hung on the tree was the punishment for sin. That meant you were cursed of God.--If you sinned.
Deut. 21:23 is the law. He that is hanged is cursed of God.
In Jn. 10:32-33 Jesus asks what good work do they stone him for. They don't charge him for that but because he makes himself God.
Mark 14:61-64 you see, They ask him and he tells them He is God's son. Then they are angry and say his sin is blasphemy. The law is if you blaspheme which is a great sin, you will hang and you therefore are accursed. ( This is so important that right now my computer is being attacked in the bible part but not the website.)
So to understand the two verses, he was made to be sin and curse was not for sin but because he said he is the son of God and that he is God. He was was charged for the sin of blasphemy against God. He was punished by the law but his claim is true. He as God only could forgive sins. He was the holy one and righteous.
see Lev. 24:16 the law-- he that blasphemes the name of the Lord shall be put to death. They crucified the name of the Lord. They didn't blaspheme the Holy Spirit so they can be forgiven. Many unsaved say the G----D words. repent and ask forgiveness while you can.

Slightly off topic. I've had an opinion on that for many years.
1 Cor. 12/3 "No man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed"
I think in general he is speaking to people not long out of paganism about the gifts. I see a deeper meaning here though. I don't think anyone who is genuinely saved will or even can take the Lord's name in vain. I've heard Christians do it. It left me in serious doubt of their salvation. One fellow said J-F-C.
I don't want to get too dogmatic on the subject as Christians who fill their life with too much world ie: movies news friends etc could find it happening. In general though, my opinion for a long time is that Christians who do it really need to question their salvation.
