If you have a sewer line, The Bible is on the History channel if anyone is interested. It is a 6 part series. The interview said that the script was checked to be correct. We will see.

Hey Gillyann,

I have ALWAYS enjoyed reading, and have found that for myself I always thought the 'movies' based on books didn't do justice to the 'books'. I guess that's because my own imagination had formed the characters, settings, and events as I 'see' them and then the producers and writers of the movie versions are limited to 'their' view of what and how they want to portray the story. I was almost always disappointed with the movies depiction, not always, but most of the ones I've watched.

See where this is going yet? Smile

I'm thinking the same with this situation...I'll stick with "The Book",<grin>. Plus I don't have those cable channels anyways... Laughing

But I hope the movie/documentary causes people who wouldn't normally read God's Word to be stirred and give them reason to search out the Scriptures to learn more.

I hope we get to see real accounts in eternity. However, I don't think that is Bible.

I watched about twenty minutes of this show and it was totally Unscriptural.

They had to leave out so much of the narrative from the Bible and add their special effects.

When the two angels were leaving Sodom, one of the angels was leading the way, he had two swords and was an obvious karate expert in the way he slashed everyone apart.

The Bible says the men of Sodom were blinded and I guess that was to much for the producers.

They had to bring in an Asian angel who could take on dozens of men with two swords, while the meteorites were falling all around them.

I assumed the whole show had this mindset. Where's the smiley that throws up when you need it?

I saw a couple minutes of this presentation of "The Bible" Sunday morning on the History channel while working out at the fitness center. It was where Moses was speaking to Pharaoh about the freeing of the children of Israel. I guess I have too much of 'The Ten Commandments' and Charlton Heston in my memory, it just seemed like a cheaply made movie with poor acting and sets. (I didn't watch long enough to determine if it was presenting The Bible historically correct.)

Then last night I came across "The Passion of The Christ" and the scenes were where Judas was betraying Jesus and then where Peter was denying Him and the starting of the 'trial', couldn't watch. I saw this movie back when it came out(03-04?) and didn't care for it, just too graphic for me...even though I think what Jesus actually went through was even worse.

But if somewhere someone is convicted or enlightened to the point of repentance or beginning to seek to know God and understand His Word, then Praise Jesus!

That's the problem I don't know if it does any good.

When I was a child I remember being home one time and watching a program I think it was on Sunday morning. Looking back now I know the show was about Jesus raising from the dead. I remember Him running out to meet Mary in this one scene.

While watching I remember my Jewish uncle saying to others in the room, these kids don't even know what they are talking about here. Everyone seemed to be amused, but at the time they were right, I did not know what was going on and what the program was about.

It was just another show on TV to me.

Thinking about this the adults did not know what it was about either or they would of been repenting and taking us kids to church.

Anyway I don't know if these kind of shows register on peoples minds as its just more entertainment.

Someone here may have had a different experience. I know God can use whatever means is needed to reach a person. This is just one opinion.

P.S. Christians are the main ones who support this type of media, and its sad that most do not even recognize that the movie is not even close to the Bible.

WHY can't they simply connect the stories?

The huge importance of Israel throughout history and the earth's future, the veins of redemption merging the OT and NT, are never addressed so that the entire Bible is linked for a reason.

This is why so many think it is a book of random fable stories.

Grrrrrrr.......

Well I made the plunge! That is I got rid of our cable connection to the TV several months back.

I read an article that said if you watch 4 hours of TV every night you will end up with 11 years of your life watching TV. I did not do the math to see if this was correct.

Some may think this is legalism but what can I say.

What drove me to this situation?

I started to time the advertisements, now you can get 5 minutes of advertising between each program. During the world news segment they give 30 seconds of news and two minutes or more of advertising. I know you can get these great deals that block the advertising and just record the show, but the eleven years of your life being saturated with the ways of the world was another factor that made me switch.

The bulk of the advertising is now medical related, I found if you mute the TV they started showing the words across the bottom of the screen.

I read an article in consumer reports that the drug industry pays one billion in advertising and end up making 3 billion in profit. Advertising does work and it controls peoples buying habits.

I'm believing God for healing in different areas and I did not need to hear about the newest drug with its side effects.

This is just for me and what I wanted to do, if someone has time to watch the tube that's their situation not mine.

Time seems to being going faster in life I want to measure it out without Hollywood.

Anyway I didn't want to turn this into a rant its just a personal decision for me, and when I reread the article here labeled TV I thought I would jump in and share this.

I recently did a job for a retired couple. When I walked in the door at 8:00 in the morning they were there watching the TV until I left at the end of the day. This was their life, it appeared they spent endless hours channel surfing. I guess for some people its more then eleven years of their life setting in front of a TV and doing their thinking for them. Very Sad way to spend your retirement.

If some in our family say were legalists then Praise God I'll be labeled a legalist. Interesting enough my sister who attends a Baptist church had their TV turned off because of the influence on the kids. They spend more time together as a family.

Not bragging but we got rid of our TV back in the early 1970's before we ever heard of FA. I thought TV was bad then. It turns my stomach whenever I see programming on it now. I've never missed it. To me it's worse than a sewer line.
