Why didn't I celebrate Christmas as a kid? [message #952] |

Lately I have had to try to explain to a lot of people why I have never celebrated Christmas. I don't even now really, but I honestly don't know specifically why, but for the fact that I simply haven't ever done it. I know there is a verse somewhere about it, but can someone help me out and tell me why we as a church didn't celebrate? Thanks so much!

Theres no one single verse that tells believers not to celebrate christmas. You have to put a few things together.
You can google christmas to find that it has roots in the occult holiday Saturnalia which was celebrated on December 25. Also we are never commanded to celebrate the Lord's birth, but rather his death, even though the church has gone overboard with Easter as well.
Theres a scripture in Jeremiah 10 that speaks about the heathen decking trees with silver and gold and taking thiem into their homes... here it is:
1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Hope that helps... theres a bunch more stuff, but as I say no single verse.
