So I thought I'd give everyone an update on what's going on around here.
The church I've been teaching at just got another pastor (I've outlasted three now!) and I think my days may be coming to an end there. I don't know him at all and he doesn't know me but I heard from one of the members that he may want to do something different on Wednesdays so I guess I'll just wait and see. I won't know what to do with myself... I've been going over there now for five years.
We've gone through 1/2 of Galatians (I took over for the pastor who had already started the book when I first got there), Revelations, Daniel, James, 1 & 2 Peter, Mark, Luke, Acts, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Romans, 1 Samuel, and halfway through Job (as of now). That was all verse by verse stuff but we also covered some topical stuff in series and also there was the systematic study of the Doctrine of God (attributes, providence, etc..)
It just goes to show that a charismatic can be welcomed into a Baptist group and not have to hold anything back! They've been very good to me and I thank God for the opportunity to have been able to use a little bit of what He's given to me.
Things are beginning to settle down a bit from the frantic summer and I hope to be able to stir things up around here soon!
Blessings,
William

I'm replying to myself because Mark asked me in a PM whether or not I considered myself a 'five-fold' minister and I figured that since we haven't had much activity on here that I would post my response here.
No, I don't consider myself a five-fold minister, at least not in the way that most of us thought of the five-fold back in the day.
We took the five-fold ministers to be 'authority' figures in the church and viewed them as being office holders in the church.
I see every so-called 'five-fold' gift as just that --gifts in the body of Christ. Not gifts of leadership or power (other than the power that all of us as believers have!) but gifts of ministry (a 'service' type of ministry as opposed to an 'office' type of ministry). These gifts don't confer leadership over the Church any more than the gift of prophecy confers leadership on a person.
One might say, "well, didn't the apostles have authority over the Church?" Their 'authority' or better 'leadership' and 'oversight' did not come about as a result of their ministry gifts (Eph 4:11f, 1Cor12, Rom12, etc.) but was a result of their being granted 'oversight' responsibilities in the Church.
I believe the Lord has given me a teaching gift (Eph4:11f) but I do not believe He has given me any kind of 'authority' or 'oversight' office in the Church.
Having a teaching gift (or a gift of prophecy, gift of evangelism, gift of tongues, etc.) does not elevate one to a 'office' in the Church.
Hopefully that explains it!
Blessings,
William

Yeah for some activity on here.<grin>
I agree with you concerning the gifts, thanks to your 'teaching' back a few years ago. So now that summer's over and all...
It's football season, I imagine Gary has already started wearing his Colt's jersey. lol
